Early 1950s Gnutti Crankset – Bartali

It was very common for Italian components to be branded with the bicycle manufacturer’s name through to the late 1950s, after which it gradually became less common.  These are standard Gnutti cotterless cranks with their exclusive splined attachment, but branded with the Bartali name.  Gino Bartali created his own brand in 1949 after his 1948 Tour de France win.  The bicycles were initially manufactured by the Santamaria brothers in Novi Ligure.
