The company was founded in the early 1900s as a joint venture between the Wolseley Motor Company, founded in 1901 in the UK, and Italian businessman Franco Tosi. The Wolsit name is a contraction of Wolseley Italiana. There is a 1907 Wolsit car campaigned in British vintage car racing.
Franco Tosi later teamed up with Emilio Bozzi for the manufacture of bicycles under the Wolsit name.
Wolsit sponsored cycle racing teams in the 1920s and 30s, but appear to have been phased out in favour of Legnano, another Bozzi company, brought to prominence by riders such as Alfredo Binda, Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi.
More recently the Wolsit brand appears to have become associated with roadster bicycles rather than racing bicycles.
