Comments:
The Motobecane Profil 3 was one of a spate of “Aero Bikes” that came on the market at the end of the 1970s and early 1980s. Similar bikes were manufactured by a number of other companies using Shimano’s new “AX” component groups. The basic group was the Adamas AX with thye 600 AX being more upmarket and DuraAce AX being the top.
The Profil 3 followed on for the Profil 2 and was better in having a nicer integrated aero fork crown and Shimano 600 AX components instead of Shimano Adamas AX. There was an altogether better and rarer model, the Profil 4, which had Columbus aero tubing and the DuraAce AX component group.
The Profil did feature as one of ‘Les Bicyclettes “Course”‘ in the Motobecane Catalogue as shown, but did say that it was not only reserved for competition.
